Oil Gang are proud to present the debut EP from Lewisham’s bright young grime star, Novelist. Fresh from his vocal appearance on 'Take Time', the lead track on Mumdance’s EP with Rinse FM and radio sets with scene luminaries Slimzee, Spooky, Slackk & Logan Sama, this four track EP displays the 17 year old’s versatility with a showcase of his productions. The lead track, 'Sniper', a barrage of gunshots, bleeps and sub bass, harks back to the sparse minimalism of early Dizzee productions and has become a staple of pirate radio and club sets throughout the scene over the last few months. The rest of the EP follows suit in the same manner, whether it be 'Christmas Riddim' and and it’s bizarre angular sleighbells or ‘Messy’, used in the legendary Lewisham cyphers from last year. All records take a while to come together and we’re really pleased to have seen Novelist in the ascendancy in the last few months since we signed this EP, whether it’s smashing up raves he’s too young to even legally enter as an MC, or as a producer, seeing Sniper gradually become a bit of anthem in our own sets at Boxed and on radio. A prodigious talent.
