Earlier this year we definitely ticked one off a lot of people's wishlists - Spooky's ‘Coolie Joyride’ riddim was one of those long lost anthems that no-one (including us) thought would ever see the light of day. But we did it, and we're so happy it happened.
After the release though, we started to get a few bootlegs coming through - lots of people with their own take on the classic, doing things with it we'd never even thought of. Some of them were so good we knew we had to put them out on an EP. So we got 4 of our favourite new producers to put their own take on it and we're releasing them on a very limited white label press. No digital, when they're gone, they're gone.
The Samename remix kicks off the EP - a proper carnival classic in the making, almost soca-esque in it's execution with whistles galore. The damage this has been doing when we've been playing it out has to be seen to be believed.
Next up Murlo takes us deep into the Orient with shamishens, taiko drums, even a bamboo flute solo. Murlo is killing it right now and this remix is just incredible.
On the B side, SirPixalot steps up first with an incredible take on ‘Coolie Joyride’ that's reminiscent of the classic Slew Dem sound - gunshots, mental drums, amsfeedbacklead. That one's brutal.
To close we have the Trends' remix, which takes us straight into Blade Runner territory with his take on the classic - all Vangelis sounds and ethereal pads.
