Musica Sol Y Mar are back with their second release of 2010 - Balearic Sound Volumen Tres - which is number three in the series. The guys have again been digging deep into their collections to bring you some more beautiful music that has soundtracked many a chilled afternoon and wild night on the White Island over the last few decades. The selection ranges from heady electronic grooves that rocked the floors of Ku, Amnesia and Pacha to the most reflective blissed out soundscapes that help add to the Cafe Del Mar legend.
First up, art rockers Kissing The Pink who scored an unlikely Balearic hit in 'Big Man Restless' that was huge on the island and went on to become a Boy's Own anthem in the UK. Australian singer and actress, Olivia Newton-John is next with her late night burner 'Magic' that could be heard in all the best clubs in the early 80s and has been since been revived by the Black Cock guys, DJ Harvey and Gerry Rooney amongst others.
The influence of Jose Padilla, the master of the sunset session at Cafe Del Mar for all those years, shines through strongly on Volumen Tres. His tapes that are prized so highly today first exposed some incredible gems. Those included here are Steven Halpern's 'The Light In Your Eyes', which is a highly sought after piece of chill out bliss, first heard on the infamous Tape 27. Also among the classic Jose selections are Goran Bregovic's 'Old Home Movie' from a forgotten Johnny Depp movie and Yello's haunting ahead of its time 'Blue Green'. Also included are a couple of Balearic favourites from the jazz canon. Jazz diva Nina Simone went reggae on her amazing interpretation of Randy Newman's 'Baltimore' that was a hit at the Paradise Garage as well as in the bars of Ibiza Town in the 70s. Brazilian MBP songstress Marisa Monte captures the Balearic vibe perfectly with her enchanting paean 'Vilarejo' - a new discovery for many and first time on vinyl too. Not forgetting the sadly departed Italian singer-producer Francesco Puccioni, better known as Mike Francis. Included on Volumen Tres is his beautiful mid-tempo groove 'Survivor' in its Long Version that really sums up those endless summers of the 1980s. All tracks featured here are either long deleted on vinyl or are seeing a vinyl release for the first time. All tracks have been re-mastered for maximum quality. Enjoy Balearic Sound!
