Like The Doobie Brothers playing live in a sunken Atlantis’ Q Magazine.
Seahawks have been making waves with their unique blend of the smooth and
the deep. Their recent 7” picture disc on Static Caravan sold out in a few
days and their first 12” on Captains Log is long gone. According to
Piccadilly Records in Manchester ‘this band are going to be huge this
Summer!’
Some have called it ‘deck shoegaze’ others ‘comic discoid yacht rock’ but
Seahawks make a sound all of their own that fuses their love of smooth rock
and disco with the more cosmic and experimental sounds associated with the
German Krautrock scene and more recently American acts like Emeralds and
Oneohtrix Point Never.
Their second 12” release on the Captains Log label contains another slice of
opiated aqua dub in the form of ‘Into Night’.
This one takes you to the cold depths of the ocean, beyond chill wave where
coral palaces inhabited by mermaids mesmerize with their deeply psychedelic
colours, leaving you to experience the true rapture of the deep.
On the flip the tempo climbs as Seahawks craftily manoeuvre into open waters
to create an intense web of smooth kraut disco, like Supermaxx meets Cluster
on the high seas, it gradually builds to an almost orgasmic release and the
one word ‘over’ repeating like surf on the beach.
Like the last 12” this is extremely limited and won’t be available as a
download and again it comes with lush full colour artwork by Pete Fowler and
a hand printed and numbered sleeve.
