Newest signing to boe recordings is the UK's very own Perseus Traxx with a strictly limited (300) hand-stamped heavy weight (180gm) vinyl only release. It's 5 tracks of pure deep and jacking Chicago sounds with haunting pads, big baselines and the classic drum machine rhythms. It's analogue food for the body and soul and house music in its purest form.
The title track Misspent Emotions is raw bumpy cut with a bouncy saw bassline chugging along to rolling claps and rims. It’s honest, late 80’s dancefloor deep house with clear influences from the melodies of Virgo and the accessible roughness of the TRAX label.
Know Yourself moves into deeper territory with spaced out pads and warm and fuzzy baseline. It’s as much Larry Heard as it is early Warp records and confirms Perseus Traxx’s ability to provide depth and variety in his sound whilst still keeping trust in simple and effective analogue tools. It’s a late night masterpiece of minimalistic electronic machine sounds.
Nod of Acknowledgement bounces right back into the nightclub with a stomping electro house groove. The baseline is tweaked and freaked over it’s short 4 minute length but it’s arrangement will allow it to be quickly eased in and out of an energetic house set. 2 B What You Want plunges again into the abyss with an almost eastern feel to the melody and rhythm. Singing hi hats and haunting pads round out a rolling baseline and tinkly lead. Mesmeric deep house at it’s best.
Finally to round of the EP is a proper drum work out tool, NR-707 with the NR standing for Nigel Rogers (AKA Perseus Traxx) and 707 his weapon of choice. Rolling toms and rims with monsterous effects produce a carnival style drum track well worth dropping mid set to get people’s bodies moving.
