Spearheading the next generation of Metalheadz artists, Jubei can safely be counted among the hottest producers on the drum & bass block right now. Since his 2006 debut single, Jubei has grown and developed as a musician, collaborating with, and learning from, artists such as Breakage, Alix Perez, Icicle, S.P.Y., Lenzman and more. 2011 sees Jubei’s music standing well on its own two feet, with a plethora of tracks waiting in the wings for the release of his debut Metalheadz album. In the meantime fans of his unique sound are invited to taste a pair of reworkings taken from Jubei’s ‘Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained’ EP, released on Metalheadz last year. First up is ‘Patience VIP’, a stripped back number that’s had some of the menace removed and replaced with rolling breaks and enticing sonic precision. Where the original version could be considered a marauding homage to Grooverider’s ‘Prototype Years’ album, this VIP breaks away on its own, living out a fresh faced Metalheadz fantasy. Dropping the tempo on the flip is Boddika (known to drum & bass fiends as Instra:Mental) whose inimitable production style shines through every aural second of his ‘Alignment’ remix. Beautifully placed percussive elements are chopped with razor-sharp broken beats, interspersed chunks of jagged bass and a progressive-techno feel.
