‘Frank & Tony presents 004’ is Francis Harris and Anthony Collins’ fourth release as part of their collaborative series for their label, Scissor & Thread. Taking deep, organic house to newfound (and sophisticated) indie territories, the special run of EPs is quickly garnering a reputation for quality and 004 is set to follow. ‘Holding On’ presents a languid love lament. A deep and nostalgic melody meets thick-set yet kinetic drums, before a warm and somewhat detached vocal relays the story of love lost. A muted brass solo appears, as if in answer to the vocalist’s melancholic words, all the while the atmosphere remains warm and balmy. The duo’s ‘Holding On Dub’ lays testament to their intricately emotive production skills; no need for the vocalist’s beautifully delivered lyrics here, the instrumental articulates the mood perfectly without.
