The peninsula's finest purveyors of everything bass-related are back in action as Iberian Records releases the third instalment of the
Tax Haven EP series, where all sorts of musical refugees find exile with unpredictable results. Taking a cue from its predecessors, Tax
Haven 3 unites four different artists on wax and digital format - Bass Clef, Photonz, Cauto and Niño - who present four different
brands of low-end heavy music for the dance floors, as well as that space between headphones.
While the London-based Bass Clef takes us on a ride with the slow-burning monolithic 4x4 of ‘Acid 8’ and then through the grey
areas between UK funky and straight-up garage on ‘Love At Last Sight’, the Portuguese vintage ravers Photonz discover life in new
planets through deconstructed drum&bass beats in ‘The Fire Sower’ and explore the alien properties of bouncy bass lines and
syncopated beats in ‘Cacilheiro’. The Barcelona-native Cauto provides his groovy take on futuristic bass music on ‘Lu-fuki’ and
‘Fukurou’, where delayed vocals provide comfort and the funky vibes push us towards the dance floor. Speaking of funk, Niño
delivers it in spades through his unique
brand of epic neon synth-driven beats, channeling everything from hip-hop to dubstep and R&B on ‘Midnighters’ and ‘Carrera’.
