After making quite an impression with his work on Items & Things, Kill The DJ, Snork Entreprises, Respoal Schallware and Correspondant in the last two years, Tomas More steps up to release his debut EP on GTCM. This two-part EP provides a unique glimpse into Tomas’ world and the contrasting results his talent produces. Part I focuses on the more atmospheric side of Tomas’ sound. Heartfelt, genuine, perhaps surprising for some, this release is nonetheless essential as it contains gorgeous original tracks and boundary- pushing remixes from italian new yorker Madteo. This guy has simply been last year’s hero with groundbreaking music released on world’s finest imprints such as Hinge Finger, Wania, Trilogy Tapes, Morphine and a monumental LP on legendary Säkhö recordings.
BREAK O DAWN
Warm, elastic synth stabs and sparse percussion treated with reverb form the backbone of this EP opener. Strange FM synthesis arpeggios interplay with vocal samples that will be recognized by the true heads out there. A lovelorn, treated voice whispers and sings a lament to the dancefloor. Kickless, More’s beat is light as a feather and soars in vertical ascent when beautiful, melancholic chords seep in the mix. An experience truly reminiscent of the most breathtaking of daybreaks.
OUR SECRET CODES
With breathing fed to a delay unit, FX and sublime synth chords, this cotton-wool track is equally subaquatic as it cosmic. A beat does make a shy appearance about halfway, but this number is largely a lovely, beatless affair. Used creatively, there’s no limit to what the skilled disc jockey can do with this track in order to take the dancefloor far, far away.
BREAK O DAWN MADTEO’S A CRACKER DAWN FASCION HOUSE
On his first remix of the EP, italian Madteo draws inspiration from Oren Ambarchi, Tim Hecker and other exponents of a noisy, drone- centric approach to sound to create a five minute trip into a world where monoliths of crunchy, sub-bass noise interplay with sprawling vocal and instrumental samples. Played loud, this remix provides a visceral experience where listeners are crushed by sound.
BREAK O DAWN MADTEO’S MEGLIO SUBITO CHE MAI MIX
On this remix, Madteo uses a similar formula but with results that are musical and dance-floor oriented. Noisy synth stabs and sam- ples are layered rhythmically, with the first kick drums on this EP making an appearance. This is a club track of a different kind, rich in detail and waiting to get unleashed on a respectable sound as1ystem for maximum results.
