Liondub45 is intent on releasing a catalog of collectible 7�s focusing on deep, vintage Dub and scorching Roots Reggae showcasing the talents of a venerable who’s who of modern Dub producers and original Foundation vocalists. Starting things with this brand new label will bea string of releases from one of Dub music’s brightest stars - NYC based producer, keyboard virtuoso, and vintage Reggae Wunderkind: Victor Axelrod, aka Ticklah. You may know the man called through his slew of solo releases and singles on labels like Giant Step & Black Redemption Sound, or his critically acclaimed solo album Ticklah Vs. Axelrod on NYC Reggae label Easy Star. Or perhaps you’d recognize Axelrod as an original member and keyboard player for world-famous Brooklyn funk outfit The Dap Kings, or his continual presence behind the keys for the Afrobeat powerhouse Antibalas. Maybe even his work with producer Mark Ronson on Amy Winehouse’s debut record, or as a founding member of the Easy Star All-Stars. The list goes on and on…Victor is a man in very high demand from some very big players for his untouchable musical aesthetics, his intricate attention to detail, and a true understanding of our musical past. It’s with that level of quality and a true reverence for the past that Ticklah offers us up this very special 7�. Things kick off with “Elimination Game�, a monster slice of dub with a driving Steppers beat, swirling sound effects, deep percussion delays, bubbling organs, and all the studio wizardry we’ve come to expect. To the flip, “Heavy Binocular� is a deeper excursion inside Axelrod’s echo chamber with sharp, militant drumwork, otherworldly birdsong, a cutting bassline, and haunting echoes and voices twisting themselves into the mix. Both tunes channel the energy and spirit of dub originators Tubby, Perry, and Scientist while also fitting right in the pocket with modern dub contemporaries such as Twilight Circus, Dry & Heavy, and Jah Shaka’s more organic excursions.
