As the aftershocks seckle from The Sprawls 1st EP, Italian noise daemon Nino Pedone a.k.a. Shapednoise tramples Terminator style over techno and D&B with Different Selves - his debut album for Type.
With albums already ignited for Hospital Productions and Opal Tapes in 2013, plus a haul of 12s for his Repitch Recordings and Cosmo Rhythmatic label including an ace Black Rain link-up, Shapednoises trail of destruction has left a salty, metallic taste on the tongue of the noise scene, and, by osmotic process, upon everything else in proximity.
With Different Selves he performs the function of a cyborg scavenger; picking the last, rotted remains of flesh from the bones of techno or emulsifying the innards of mid-90s D&B until it prolapses its body weight in rubble and copper wiring with mechanical efficiency.
He proves the muckiest Midas touch over nine atonal and aggressively harnessed misshapes, navigating by haptic, kinaesthetic senses from the chasmic collaboration Enlightenment, featuring some of Justin Broadrick's nastiest Tech Level 2-style drops, thru to the empty-stomach scraping deprivations of Well-Being and the closing jaws of Escalation, taking in the woodblock-littered battlefields of Intruder and tortuous noise inception of Dream within a Dream without ever flinching or looking back.
In a similar way to Arcas Mutant and The Sprawls EP1 before it, Different Selves feels the completion of Shapednoises latest Instar - a developmental stage of shedding ones exoskeleton in order to grow or assume a new form. The process is a visceral experience; physically compelling and fascinating to undergo.
