A1 Hard Full B1 Deep Subliminal B2 Pyro Dynamics (Vinyl exclusive) HOLIC Trax was founded in 2012 by London based Japanese DJ/Producer Tomoki Tamura as part of the HOLIC music event and now serves up its fifth release from none other than Detroit music making machine Rick Wade of Harmonie Park and Moods & Grooves association. His Hard Full EP comes in two versions, the first featuring three tracks on limited, 10” coloured vinyl and the second digitally, both of which feature different tracklists as detailed below. Both vinyl and digital releases will open with the title track, Hard Full. Sounding like a classic Wade cut right from the off, squelchy drums turn over and over to lock you in place before typically elegant string samples sweep up through the mix and really set it off. ‘Deep Subliminal’ also features on the vinyl, and kicks that bit harder and firmer with splashing claps and a gentle tumble of toms and congas that imbue the track with a tropical tribalism. The last vinyl exclusive is Pyro Dynamics with its nagging bass synth line, dreamy sunny day melodies and locked in place, heavyweight drums. A real charmer! Digital purchasers on the other hand get treated to an exclusive in the form of ‘Detroit Suspense’, which wiggles and burrows its way into a deep groove endlessly and effortlessly. The percussion glistens as it slices up and down and this time its languorous late night chords and future facing pads that colour the spaces in between. Like anything to which Wade puts his name, these are economical yet efficient tracks that really hypnotise you at the same time as reaching for your heart strings. Following releases from Mr G, Tucillo and Chris Carrier, HOLIC is in a fine run of form.
