Quenum and Dachshund, both residents of Geneva, Switzerland, join forces once again for a double dose of experimental tech-house. Phil Quenum (co-founder of labels Cadenza and Num), has a resume that would kill a rainforest: club and radio DJ, staff member for the Montreux Jazz Festival, and producer with releases on Trapez, Mental Groove, Alphahouse, Orac and ToysForBoys to name a few. Dachshund has had a steady string of releases in just three years, including Harthouse, Perspektiv and Platzhirsch. Quenum and Dachshund, along with Bloody Mary, first connected with Contexterrior last summer as a trio who named themselves the Gypsy Family. The Legba EP finds them in collaboration mode again: “Agbara” sounds as alien as its title suggests, featuring undiscovered species of sound that hum, twang, chirp and zwiff along a bouncy backing beat. Achtung: If you play it backwards, you’ll get ear cancer! Meanwhile, “Ogou” is a swingy, frenetic monster, with echoes of that other Swiss duo Yello, and a subteBaltimoresque breakdown. If you like a little bit of head-scratching with your ass-shaking, pick this one up.
