Moonstarr is back with a vengeance. After a long minute making beats for other peeps like Voice, LAL, Daedelus, DJ Kentaro, and Zero DB and scoring music for film, our man heeded the calls and poured energies into his latest album, Instrumentals Forever, his second full-length release on Public Transit Recordings. To say this is a highly anticipated record is an understatement, given the worldwide rounds and critical acclaim that followed his bossabreakbeat and synth-infused debut album Dupont earlier this century. On this latest outing, Moonstarr effortlessly melds the sonic spaces between hiphop, techno and bossa-jazz with that classic Moonstarr drumbreak swing programming. Not one to shy away from being a bit cheeky, Instrumentals Forever is a slight play on words with tracks featuring vocal collaborations with bossa soul crooner Sarah Linhares, political dub soul collective LAL, Montreal hip hop luminary Lotus Jai Nitai and jazz-inflected Toronto hip hop fams Fineprint. Instrumentals Forever ventures into a thick realm of moods and eclectic breaks and body rocking tempos on tracks like “Broken Bossa”, and “Break It Down” , to ESG-inspired “Get Outside” and classic techno vibe of “String Theory”. For the headnodders and rap fans, “Climax” and “Planets Collide” and the soon-to-be classic 'Fucked Up Love' will have you anticipating constant rewind. And of course, we can't forget the comedy, like calls from a certain superstar DJ's disgruntled brother and random ridiculous messages from random ridiculous folks in Moonstarr's life. MOONSTARR Moonstarr's sound has continuously evolved with releases on such noteworthy labels as Sonar Kollektiv, Guidance, Twisted Funk, Planet E, Ninja Tune, MPS, Compost, Do Right! and on his own imprint Public Transit Recordings. He has collaborated on musical projects with indie soul, electronic, and jazz heavyweights such as Jazzanova, Recloose, 4hero, Ennio Morricone, Abacus, LAL, and Ivana Santilli. In the process, Moonstarr has gained worldwide acclaim for his music from veteran DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby, Laurent Garnier, Marc Mac, Derrick May, and DJ Spinna and from various publications like Straight No Chaser, XLR8R, Montreal Gazette and Exclaim, and has scored for the cult hit film Next: A Primer On Urban Painting.
