180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL Miriam Makeba is internationally known for her 1967 hit "Pata Pata". She was the first artist from South Africa to become an international star, recording and touring with the likes of Paul Simon, her former husband Hugh Masekela and Harry Belafonte.
In 1966 she won a Grammy for her performances with the latter. Makeba was nicknamed Mama Africa and was globally revered for her civil rights activism, fi ghting tirelessly against apartheid and an adversarial government as from the early stages of her career.
Being exiled from her homeland ever since the early Sixties, she only returned in 1990, after the much-publicized liberation (and by request) of Nelson Mandela.
