Debut single from new Mad Decent artist Maluca! It's produced by label head Diplo, who once again comes with something completely different - "El Tigeraso" is inspired by Merengue movements and Maluca's Dominican roots, blasting at around 170 bpms with lion roars, whistles, horns, shakers and cookies on the side. Remixes come in big too - eadz (Ed Banger) gently flips the original with a dubbed take on the main keys - watch for the awesome breakdown midway through. DJ Gantman throws on some Chicago Juke, NGUZUNGUZU does their crazy LA tropical thing, and Sticky K (Dubsided) rips the whole thing apart, coming up with Diplo's favorite remix of the bunch. Aside from this being a total summer jam, Maluca is poised to blow up in the last half of 2009 - she's been steadily doing shows from LA to Belgium has been getting a ton of press - all without so much as a single out!
Born in the Bronx and raised in Manhattan by Dominican parents, MALUCA is that increasingly rare bird- a downtown girl who brings together the classic cool, glamour, grit and passion of New York City in an instant! After meeting Diplo at a karaoke bar, the two starting working together resulting in her debut single "El Tigeraso" (coming via Mad Decent), an infectious track that draws on her Dominican electro merengue roots. Maluca had her first public perfomance at the SXSW FADER fort and tore the roof off with a short set that showcased her wide range of influences - from artists such as ESG, Savannah Band, Wu-Tang, Gil Scott Heron, Nina Simone to styles like Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, House, Disco, and Freestyle. Keep your eyes open and platanos peeled for the self proclaimed "1/2 dominican 1/2 Pain in the ass."
