Born Travis Stewart on March 4th 1982, Machinedrum has created several albums under several aliases since his first independent release in 1999. At 19, his debut Now You Know was released on the influential Merck Records and gained worldwide praise from fans and critics. It was heralded as the "standard to which the next wave of imitators aspires" by Pitchfork – a sentiment reiterated in reviews of last years LP, Who Wants to 1, 2. Hip Hop, Electo, R&B, Fuzz-Rock, House, Juke, Garage, Dubstep, Whatever; a scene of young New York kids are forming with Machinedrum at their heart. He runs the Cassette NYC club as their local haunt and has played svengali to next to blow artists such as Jesse Boykins iii, Theophilus London & Azealia Banks.
Covering an astonishing variety of styles Travis naturally bridges gaps between the electronic and acoustic genres that until the recent free-culture of digital media sat in such defined, separate territory. His disregard for boundary makes him an early influence on the LuckyMe ethos and we are now very proud to acknowledge his place in our ranks with 12” EP LM005 The Many Faces of Machinedrum.
Simply put, this is innovative club music. Side A holds three crisp Electro and Beat tracks which build up to huge melodic plateaus of Travis’ own reverb drenched vocal harmonies. While Side B takes it to a somewhat darker place with 3 dope, ignorant songs for the club with Ghetto House and Juke amped up on clattering Hip Hop drums. The Many Faces… is a literal testimony to the multifaceted young musician who straddles pop standards and underground dance music, leaving a shimmering signature on everything he touches.
