Measured by the sold out venues throughout the UK, Gearbox Records founder Darrel Sheinman sure wasn’t the only one beguiled by poetry wunderkind Kate Tempest's 2013/2014 stage tour Brand New Ancient. It was him, however, who initiated a studio recording of the programme, which tells the tale of two families in a city and earned Kate Tempest the Ted Hughes Prize for innovation in poetry. In its immortalised form, Tempest’s idiosyncratic mix of street poetry, rap and storytelling is underlined by compositions from British musical director Nell Catchpole who wrote suitable arrangements for electronica, violin, cello, tuba and percussion.
