a1 Ishan Sound - Namkha
a2 Ishan Sound - NN Special
b Ishan Sound - Namkha (Kahn remix)
One half of Zhou and part of Bristol's Young Echo crew, Cris Ebdon aka Ishan Sound drops one very heavy slice of darkside dubstep
purism for Tectonic's latest release. 'Namkha EP' features 3 cuts of a simply killer rhythm - appearing in it's original form; as the more
dubwise 'NN Special' version, and finally, backed by a remix from Young Echo's most familiar face - the ever-excellent Kahn.
'Namkha' begins to the sound of pulsing electric, throbbing over a chilling melody, simple percussive hits counting you up to the
break, before - WHAM - ground shaking subs pound in with that rhythm. It delivers a full body hit that takes you to the original heavy
weight mediation space of dubstep-past. Dubwise variations come in the form of 'NN Special' and flip the plate to check Kahn's killer
remix, giving it a darker, more grime-like twist.
Words from Pinch:
"I first heard this track in a Bristol basement venue with the Young Echo crew at the controls of the soundsystem. I was already
enjoying the deep vibes, hearing new sounds I found reminiscent of the early dubstep days (circa 2003-2005), when out of the blue
this simple but outstanding rhythm drops... I lost my cool and rushed to the decks to find out what it was, as - to my ears anyway - it
was one of the best dubstep tracks I'd heard in years. It turned out to be 'Namkha' by Ishan Sound and I'm now very proud to now
host this release on Tectonic. Minimal excellence is one of the hardest things to achieve in music-making as it requires all the sonic
ingredients to be nothing less than perfect. They have to be as they are fully exposed; naked for the world to see. 'Namkha' is a great
example of minimal excellence. Its few simple ingredients are perfectly formed and exemplify a fresh take on the early dubstep sound
I fell in love with 10 years ago."
