"Conjure War" is the first single from the debut album from London's Invasion. Sonic assassins from a parallel universe, they are here to rain musical Armageddon down upon the hard of thinking. Armed only with a three-stringed electric guitar (Marek Steven), drums (Zel Kaute) and a soul powered vocalist (Chan Brown) their devotion to what Tenacious D would call 'The Metal' is total. "Metal has always been my life" says guitarist Marek Steven. --- Invasion recognise the two key components of all good metal is maximum heavyosity and an obsession with Fantasy. "I was a geeky kid who read fantasy novels whilst listening to early Metallica and Sleep. I started an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons society at college. A lot of the best metal is about wizards, the occult and environmentalism. It was the biggest mistake ever Peter Jackson not using Led Zeppelin on the Lord of the Rings movies." --- 'Conjure War' is an excellent introduction to the two pronged attack of heavy riffage and allegorical fantasy. Transpose these tales of evil forests, bloody battles and vengeful wizards to the 21st century and you've got a social commentary JRR Tolkien would be proud of. --- Duly snapped up by the ever erudite This Is Music, Invasions' debut album 'The Master Alchemist' is due for release in September 09. Recorded with Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco in four days at Liam Watson's shrine to minimalism Toerag Studios, it tells the story of a bleak land where corruption is commonplace and despotic rulers forge wars in distant lands. "London literally IS Mordor" explains Marek, "Evil leaders, invasions, concrete everywhere. Tolkien lived just outside Oxford and he admitted that some inspiration for Lord of the Rings was his anger at the encroachment of the city upon the countryside." --- The cherry on the top of the Invasion cake is Chan Brown, the band's kaftan-bedecked soul powered vocalist. Whereas it's said that if you cut Zel she bleeds Metal, Chan's family has a different blood type, her Auntie is PP Arnold. She is slightly more philosophical about what Invasion have to say "I guess people are looking for answers about how we should be living" says singer Chan. "We don't have any, but there is a lot we can take from ancient spiritual views about respecting the earth and worshipping the sun. We've been idiots for losing sight of these things and now we're facing the consequences. Although our songs are just about wizards and magic!"
