Forma’s combustible mixture of lush synth explorations and frenetic rhythm has captivated the margins of the international synth scene since their acclaimed 2011 debut on John Elliott’s Spectrum Spools label.
Following 2012’s dark and penetrating OFF/ON, the trio set a direct course toward the shadowy perimeter of the dance floor, with John Also Bennett replacing original member Sophie Lam. FORMA’s celebrated live performances -- extended improvisational journeys veering from the ecstatic to the foreboding -- draw techno, noise, and synth disciples into their realm.
We first heard Forma at a live show at their headquarters--Bushwick's monumental live-work space and performance venue The Schoolhouse. After one of their shows this winter, members of the group revealed that they had been working on music that didn’t really fit into an album format, but would work as a 12” aimed more at dancefloor audiences--and that’s what you have here: two epic 15 minute tracks of blissed out kosmische techno.
