Epiphany is Damian Schwartz's new moniker, created to give home to his most twisted and raw stuff.
The first release in this new AHD imprint is all about raw, dirty and spiritual sounds. Created and mixed on the analog domain and recorded to 1/4” tape, “A ghost of myself” could be considered as a mix of Schwartz´s biggest influences, from 90s NY house to Detroit techno and Chicago sounds, all processed through Damian´s own style, resulting on a dope release based around strong rhythms, mystic sounds and rough yet fine progressions.
A1 “A ghost of myself” consists on a rough and raw drum beat being hit by syncopated snares and crash cymbals. The juicy acid bass line goes on and on over the beat opening and closing, while some heavy flanged chords appear and disappear over the evolution of the track. A deep string pad plays from time to time, putting together the rawness and dirtiness of the beat with the flanged chords, creating a spiritual link between both.
B1 “Out of being” could be defined as a house track, yet it's not exactly that. A pad processed through a vocoder filterbank goes over the entire track, giving it a slightly deep approach, synth chords and arpeggios appear and disappear softly over a heavy distorted kick and effected beat, while a motion sequenced pad gives the whole track some kind of outer space or mystic feeling.
B2 “Through your ears” is basically a different take on B1's. The track is conformed around the same elements with some exceptions. A vocoder recorded voice goes on and on, the bass line now describes a deep and melodic riff, while some dubby chords are in charge of giving air over this rarefied atmosphere.
