The rich musical roots of Midwestern America set the backdrop until he flew to Santiago, Chile to finish a Bachelor's of Philosophy. The stark transition inspired the two songs "City Slicker" and "Money Hungry Astronauts" on this 45: an account of the excitement and isolation of being a conspicuous "gringo" in a South America. Velding-VanDam's melancholic electronic beats fuse with 80s dance music to form a distinctly multicultural and postmodern sound.
