A phoenix rising from the ashes! Clichéd statement ..? Perhaps, but it's certainly the one that best describes 3B Records. Staying in storybook mode for just a moment this long standing Liverpool institution formerly known as 3Beat was snatched from the clutches of doom by 3 members of staff who were unwilling to let it become legend gone. 3beat was a tastemaker and a go to store for many of the industry's leading DJ's, music lovers and collectors alike.
Trusted by artists & record labels to push their latest sounds out into the far reaches of the musical cosmos, years before the internet dictated the introduction of new music. Doing for dj's and producers what Probe Records did for new bands, 3beat at the top of its game was considered one of the best record stores of its kind in Europe.
As times changed and record shops as we knew them started vanishing all around the globe, 3Beat was also in danger of being lost forever. Closure was unavoidable but amidst the sadness Adam, Jemmy & Thomas saw an opportunity and the doors re-opened as 3B Records.
5 years later and after a lot of hard work, passion and belief, 3B is going from strength to strength not only as a record & music shop but also as a leading ticket outlet in the North West area.
Behind the scenes 3Beat was a much bigger operation before its demise, consisting of an in house record label and label management company, a model the 3 would love to bring back, and now with the ship steadied it's time for them to put the next phase of their plans into action.
Introducing 3B Records the label… An outlet for Tufty Club, Jemmy & Skyland Mountain to release music of their own alongside amazing local talent and internationally established artists that they admire. Be it techno, house, cosmic disco or something a little different their ethos remains simple … release quality music that they all feel connected to.
Kicking off the first release is Liverpool based Company is family. Mark as he's known in everyday life is a lover of dub techno, and reductionist house.
Mark embedded himself into the Liverpool scene running Coco de Mer, a night that brought some of the hottest & yet previously un-booked (in Liverpool) dj's to the city.
Coco de Mer did not set out as a venture to acquire followers or financial gain but to create a chance for Mark to spin with, learn from and enjoy his favorite artists on his own terms.
It's here where Mark got the desire to join those he truly respected and start making the music he wanted to play and now Mark has a string of releases already under his belt on District Raw, Tenampa, and New Violence Records.
‘Naomi' is a timeless melodic house journey with dreamy deep chord drops, immersing vocals, and an infectious skippy groove, with subtle garage undertones.
Berlin based Spencer Parker weighs in with 2 superb takes on the original, the first keeping the dreamy vein of the track over a heady drum groove.
The second, a heavier techno dub, favouring industrial hooks over the dreamy content of his main mix.
Finally, fellow scouser and Scenery Records artist, Circular Rhythms, is a perfect addition to the package, toughening things up with a loopy yet organic, groove centred techno interpretation that contains a slither of acid and the right amount of grit.
This remix in particular has featured heavily in the label bosses sets of late.
