Returning to the full-length format with the second album THIS SIDE OF PARADISE (KOMPAKT 335 CD 126) in October, COMA never stray far from their well-established modus operandi: rich in melodic and rhythmic content, the new material appeal to fans who love their music at home and in the club. Lead single LORA is no different: a truly refined electronic pop gem from artists commanding their craft with confidence and style, bolstered by powerful, glistening revamps from electronic luminaries PIONAL and ROBAG WRUHME.
At first glance, LORA sounds like the tenderhearted, pop-infused epic it actually is, featuring well-trusted lyrics like "I don't know why I have to feel this way" - however, the title doesn't refer to a lost love, but to anxiety disorder medication. And maybe a lost love, too. Constantly reevaluating their own tropes, COMA prove again their knack for unconventional, but immensely catchy hooks that seem half-sung, half synthesized.
Hivern Discs' PIONAL's nudges things in a different direction for his take on LORA, dialing back the dreamy synthesis and opting for a sturdier, drum-driven build - which results in a powerful, emotive jam with a wonderful live feel. This brings us to the virtuoso revamp from seasoned producer ROBAG WRUHME: knowing his way around intricate arrangements, he lets the beat breathe like a good wine before hitting the floor with all the melodic might from the original - a masterful and highly detailed club cut that fuses the eccentric pop quirks of COMA with his own sonic sensibilites.
