Baba Stiltz isn't exactly the first name you'd associate to Will Bankhead's The Trilogy Tapes, but the reality is that the producer's shady strain of deep house works perfectly well with the incorrigibly leftfield label. Moreover, Bankhead has never been one to shy away from anything that he likes, so it would be unfair to limit this incredible imprint to techno or noise. "Keep It Lit" kicks off with a warm, gloriously funky little house groove that reminds us of DJ Nature or even Kyle Hall's early productions whereas, on the flip, "BB 1-2" edges closer to typical TTT territories thanks to its deranged vocal samples and broken arrangement. "We Both Know It's The Last Game We Play" is similarly twisted, and verging towards just the right kind of dark and eerie. This is a fine, three-piece house EP with a hint of TTT's inimitable oddity. 5 stars.
