Since we opened our small record store in Brighton we have been asked repeatedly for new garage releases on wax. This reminded us that not too much that is available at the moment which could easily fit that criteria. And as long term garage fans ourselves we are more than happy to oblige the faithful with 4 killa darkside steppers from London's BUZZIN 10. The beats harken back to classic UK garage but are topped off by synths that share common musical ground with Detroit electro or European electronica.
Kicking off with BLEAKEST RAVE an appropriately ominous tone is set. A breakbeat rolls out and is joined by a sub-enhanced menacing bassline. They are pursued by swathes of slow-moving sinister synths. The balance between hazy dissonance and relentless rhythm swings back and forth until the abstracts sounds win out and engulf the track completely.
CAN'T GO ON's beat is snappy with those crucial one beat drops that make us freeze on the spot. Choppy chords, a hovering string and fonky signature synthline add fly musical re-enforcement. Feels goooood.
GASEOUS skips infectiously along before being infiltrated by a ruckus-bringing elephantine b-line. A seriously hype vibe for the dancefloor.
Last up LOST IT's acid / organ b-line and tight 2-step rhythm will drive the raver to the brink of delirium..
