They were fit fellas, always goin on about their muscles. They kept sayin, ‘feel my bicep, feel my bicep’, or something to that effect…” Mystery Meat is back! Following a hiatus since last summer’s double-sided whammy release courtesy of NYC disco dons Jacques Renault and Lee Douglas, “Pump” b/w “Got To Find A Disco”, the top secret edits label returns with the Bicep boys in tow. And what a return it is! Bicep have been making serious noise over the past several months following their auspicious debut on the Throne of Blood label in late 2010. In the months since, they’ve gone on to remix Domino Recording’s Blood Orange, Tal M. Klein (a known associate of fellow Mystery Meaters Nick Chacona & Anthony Mansfield), and LA upstarts Cosmic Kids, and their follow-up EP2 is currently doing the damage on discerning dancefloors the world over. An early 2011 trip to NYC yielded an acclaimed set on Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space set where they debuted “Say You Wanna”, the standout cut on this otherwise stellar edits suite. In their own words, “Here we’ve got a fresh muscle workout that’s camper than Christmas at the Osmond’s. Inspired by a sleazy late night taxi journey down Ocean Drive back in 87, this bad boy packs a glittery magenta punch of DX7 grooves and stomping Bicep beats. It’s our homage to those forgotten jams that helped define an era (a rather optimistic one at that!).” “Knockout” treads similar 80s Black Wedding turf, a perfect pairing for the a-side of this 12?. Both “Hit n Run” and “Gotta Get Up” stay squarely in the same decade, but bring an altogether different vibe to the fore. Tough Bicep beats run throughout the EP, and even a little acid squiggle comes to the fore on the closing cut, “Gotta Get Up”. These forgotten gems are about as fun as it gets, and clearly open a new chapter in the ever-evolving edits story.
