Afrikanz On Marz come correct with their second release for Out Hear Audio. This follows on from their acclaimed first single The Road We Travel. Ashley Beedle and Darren Morris have joined forces with UK Rap artist Skilf to concoct a psychedelic drum led monster with shades of early WARP bleepness, bass funk and Headhunter era Herbie Hancock to come up with something unique and thought provoking. Skilf lets loose with gritty lyrics and completes a strong combination.
Skilf is a Brighton based Rap/Dance artist with a unique and distinctive sound. Unfazed by the restrictions of 'genre' over the years he has worked with a range of producers. Artists from Bob Dylan, to Wu Tang Clan to The Streets have had a big impact on Skilfs approach to writing and rapping.
Ashley and Darren have produced a huge body of work together at their space-age bolthole in East Sussex, most notably perhaps is Mavis – a sort of version excursion, concept album based on Mavis Staples rendition of 'A House Is Not A Home', and featuring artists including Candi Staton, Kurt Wagner and Chris Coco. Afrikanz On Marz is an outlet for the space traveller inside each of them – an album is currently in production and coming early 2012.
