The newest Tigersushi 12” is also the newest addition to the labels infamous roster, ‘Yes Wizard.’ Like many of the labels new artists ‘Yes Wizard’ has an ambiguous almost mythical place, not just on the roster, but also the world at large. During a recent R&R mission in the South East Coast town of Ubatuba, Brazil, Joakim found himself privy to a local urban legend, of a Jungle Man, a music composer going by the name of ‘Yes Wizard.’
Revered by many, but unrevealed to all, Joakim set out to find the artist and the body of work, samples of which he had heard and had been blown away by. Unable to collect precise information and with nothing available on the internet, Joakim was not successful. But on his return to Paris was mysteriously furnished with a 2 track single.
First impressions led Joakim to believe that the two tracks he had acquired were simply the tip of the iceberg, but both tracks could be an EP of Futuristic, Tropical, Dark, Voodoo. Undeterred by the quantity he solicited a remix from man of the moment Duke Dumont for title track ‘Elephant & Castle’ keeping the original arpeggio but turning out a massive African-Dancefloor bomb! Final track ‘Heaven Black’ is a constantly building playful piece of Tropican-Electro. All three tracks are already receiving support from Erol Alkan and Rob Da Bank.
Tigersushi turned 10 years young in 2010, the year of the Tiger according to Chinese astronomy. Over this 10 years of activism, love and artistic ambition Tigersushi released great records from Poni Hoax, Panico, Principles of Geometry, Krikor, K.I.M., Jackson, Discipline and label boss, A&R and designer Joakim amongst many others. In doing so it captivated the world of modern music touching genres from disco to rock, pop to electronic without ever really sounding like anything else.
