Arthur Baker, Gang of Four, Goldie, Depeche Mode, Moby, Playground…The list of artists that enjoyed Sie Medway-Smith’s production and programming skills is hard to believe! He first started as Howie B’s assistant with whom he worked on Bjork and U2 projects before Daniel Miller invited him to work on his own label (Mute). He later produced for Depeche Mode and became the only artist that ever co-wrote a song with Martin Gore. We therefore won’t be surprised of the new-wave tone of Velo’s firsts songs, which he wrote with Peter Cochrane (former Palladium). After the passion concerning their Ellie Goulding and Penguin Prison remixes (released on Neon Gold and #1 on Hype Machine), the first gig in London was a major event. It enabled us to discover “Trading Alibis”, to be released in July on their eponymous EP on Eurostar Records. The EP includes an awesome ‘banger’ remix by French whizz kid Mondkopf, and French folk band Cocosuma’s ‘Enjoy your cocktail by the pool with sweet girls’ cover version of the title track.
