124 Recordings 5th release is a deep and moody various artists EP. 4 tracks from 4 different artists that cover all the bases.
Steve Frisco's "From Z Dat" is simple yet very effective. Evolving melodies and rhythms swirl around from the get go, hypnotising you as they go along. Echoed vocals, suspenseful strings and some expert filter tweaking keep things interesting in a track that id brilliantly simplistic.
"Three" by Colman Buckley is an all together more peak time affair. The beats in the first few bars set the tone of the track before a chord melody steps things up a gear. Again strings are used to build suspense as more percussion keeps the energy rising constantly, making this a sure fire dance floor hit.
Things turn a little more serious with Cecil's aptly titled "Raw Jam". Heavy drums, dubby chords and some well placed vocal stabs combine to form this late night heavyweight.
Finally, we have Sjef Wanders rounding off the EP with a full tilt house jam. Sjef sets his stall out right from the get go and you find yourself nodding your head after just 30 seconds! Snare rolls, splash cymbals, creepy vocals and strings keep things exciting while the haunting organ riff just seems like it's never going to leave you alone. This one is HOT!
