Tempa / This is the fifth instalment of a genuine collectors item, where established and usurping talent rub shoulders over two heavy-weight cuts of the black shiny stuff. This time we announce the arrival with ’Siren’ by Seven, the fanfare Riddim which DJs including Youngsta and Benga have been using to intro their sets of late, to devastating effect. (Drum & Bass fans may know Seven better as his alter-ego Eddy Woo). New kid on the Tempa block, TRG follows up with ’Surreal (5am)’, an early hour dancefloor rub from the man that brought us the original of the now classic, Broken Heart.
From Romania we travel to Bristol to see Pinch where we pick up the ethereal, light-headed ’Motion Sickness’. From Bristol we ’Hitch’ a ride down the M4 to Croydon and collect a new joint from Skream, by this time we’re rid of our motion sickness but still left with a very magical headyness as lasers dart across our view leaving a hazy, purple trail. Luke.Envoy rolls up next with ’So’ a production which has something of Todd Edwards about it. Like classic Todd, there’s something evangelic about the chopped vocals here, giving the bass, which is all too often painted with a negative and aggressive brush, an altogether more angelic hue.
The collection comes to a close with Ramadanman’s ’Bidding War’, a progressive excursion built of ghostly stabs and rising tensions.
