Soul Jazz Records are re-releasing their classic double CD/ double vinyl vol 1/ double vinyl vol 2 "Acid-Can You Jack?" to coincide with the release of their new album "Acid - Mysterons Invade the Jackin' Zone'.
This first album tells the story of the evolution of house and acid in Chicago and how a number of creative artists from the city developed a sound that came to influence the world. The double album set comes complete with extensive text by the renowned dance music writer Tim Lawrence (author of Love Saves The Day and Soul Jazz Records' earlier Voguing CD/Book).
"Acid-Can You Jack?" features all the major artists from the city - from the originators like Marshall Jefferson, DJ Pierre, Jamie Principle, Adonis to second wave artists like Cajmere and Roy Davis Jnr – artists who continue to make Chicago a unique musical environment today.
The album traces how the sound developed as clubs like Ron Hardy’s legendary “Music Box” and Frankie Knuckles “ Warehouse” put Chicago on the map along with radio shows from the Hot Mix Five.
The album features all-time classic tracks such as Phuture’s “Acid Trax” and Sleezy D’s “I’ve Lost Control” alongside many rare and experimental tracks such as Jamie Principle's Baby Wants To Ride and Marshall Jefferson’s “Go Wild Rhythm Tracks”.
The album also comes with exclusive photos and interviews with Marshall Jefferson, Adonis, Tyree and more, showing how Chicago’s unique culture and artists led to some of the most important music ever.
The album comes in double-CD and outsize booklet in slipcase format and super-loud volume 1 and volume 2 double-lp format.
