The latest in our Producers series contains 25 key tracks from the career of record producer, songwriter, publisher, record company owner, film director and all-round music biz mogul Lou Adler, an architect of the California sound and founder of the Dunhill and Ode record labels.
The collection spans the 1950s to the mid-1970s: from R&B stars Sam Cooke and Johnny “Guitar” Watson to “stoner rock” comedy duo Cheech & Chong and ‘Sweet Tranvestite’ from the US production of the Rocky Horror Show.
Adler, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 as the recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award, also produced amongst many others Jan & Dean, the Mamas & the Papas and, most successfully, Carole King, whose “Tapestry” was the best-selling album of the 1970s.
The booklet features a new interview with Lou Adler and rare photos from his personal collection.
