“Kunst des schönen Spiels der Empfindungen” (The art of the beautiful play of sensations) is when, in 1790 with Kant, colors and sounds were gathered around one notion: the equal interplay between the different art genres. We borrowed Kant’s words to name the first really release.
Modern -electronic- music is the schizophrenic shape that music has taken not so long after mass industrialization and globalization of the world, responding to the evolutions the world had accepted in its everyday life.
Musicians have done what artists have done so well for ages: they have started documenting these changes through the lense of their art. They have used modern technology to render what they felt was rhythms and sounds of factories. Yesterday, music was answering to industry; today, industry is responding to music. Musicians, who have chosen with passion to use the tools of technology, now find themselves unwillingly bound to mass productions and volume discounts.
With “Kunst des schönen Spiels der Empfindungen”, it’s the traditional representatives of the fine arts, the visual artists, who will attempt for one particular exhibition to adapt their art and the way they make it, to join on a vinyl release this new generation of musicians. The vinyl covers, if considered as canvas, are a completely new playground for visual artists. With a material different from the usual canvas or paper, when put together, the covers offer a broad and flexible surface for expression. The work is still created as a whole but eventually taken apart.
“Kunst des schönen Spiels der Empfindungen” is an attempt to invite the public to reconsider both the way visual arts and music are made, to break the common rules, to mix the defined playgrounds in order to create a fleeting space dedicated to the ““beautiful play of sensations”.
