Absolutely essential 20 year retrospective from one of the most inimitable labels in the electronic underground. Downwards started life in the sunny city of Birmingham as the child of one Karl O'Connor aka Regis, pushing a particular brand of hard-edged Techno and taking it's influences from the great alchemists of the British Isles such as Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and The Normal. In recent years the label has expanded from it's core roster of Regis, Surgeon, Female, Antonym and the myriad alias associated with them, to encompass new and upcoming artists like Samuel Kerridge and Oake, and has enjoyed a fine resurgence of late. To put it briefly, this amazing compilation exhibits the best of what Downwards was, is and will continue to be: a challenging and essential label that commands immediate attention.
