What is the probability that a Frenchman and an American would come together to start an album
series together? The odds are next to zero unless one refers to French DJ/Producer J Hart and Baltimore native
UnReal, a rare emcee/DJ combination that equals hip hop when adding their contrasting origins.
Considering their vast cultural differences, what do you get when these two merge?
The result is the Graduation, an opus detailing the journey of a damned rappers growth from the street corners
of Baltimore. Mixed with deft lyricism over J Harts soulful throwback production, UnReal draws the listener into
his mind while reflecting both he and J Harts love for hip hop.
While Baltimore is most known for its grittiness, violence, and drugs due to the HBO series The Wire and The
Corner, over thirteen tracks Unreal reflects on his own regrettable lifestyle on the Baltimore streets and
how he struggles to be a better man because of it.
The Graduation is so entitled to convey UnReals recent graduation from college, his graduation into a more
polished artist and his graduation into manhood. Symbolizing more than a diploma certificate, the Graduation is
a wonderfully crafted hip hop project detailing the amelioration of UnReal as a person.
There is no glorification but the restitution of route, the story of a mans will to change and become a
Man. This is the evolution, the redemption, the Graduation...
