ManMakeMusic’s fifth release, a 10" vinyl-only EP, comes from U, the newest addition to the imprint?s expanding roster. Unlike the label?s first four outings that were aimed squarely at the dance floor, this record is a stranger and more pensive affair featuring 4 raw cuts of genre defiant electronica. Opener “Eah” borrows from 80s Chicago house but strips out some of the more familiar tropes leaving just a guttural and infectious rhythm. Evil Spirits is a stuttering mournful piece while Haunted flips a faintly recognisable sample over a shuffling 4x4 beat. The EP is rounded off with “Heaven", the most optimistic of the 4 tracks, and described by the artist as a warped homage to an idealised golden era of British dance music?.
