A1. Caustic Mist
B1. Hynoid 1
B2. Lingua Plumb
Komisch welcomes a new act for its ninth release. Tricaustic is a collaboration between longstanding Dublin techno DJs Sunil Sharpe and Jon Hussey, and they bring their experience to bear on these raw and distinctive techno tracks.
‘Caustic Mist’ is a bleak, tunnelling groove populated by cold bleep patterns and yelping analogue riffs that ride waves of surging, splurging bass. It captures 90s techno’s energy and adventure, but twists, teases and re-imagines it for 2011 dance floors.
‘Hynoid 1’ is less upfront and at the outset languishes in swirling textures, but a pumping bass and sick alien-like licks succeeds in pushing it down the rabbit hole, aided by a spacey break down full of dislocated vocals.
Finally ‘Lingua Plumb’ sees Tricaustic opt for a swampier approach. The arrangement swings and the tone-shifting bass underpins muttered vocal samples. It’s a glorious, acid-soaked end to this murky techno record.
