Huge support from Radio 1 already with Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Fearne Cotton, Nihal and Nick Grimshaw all championing.
For those of you still playing catch-up, the UK has a new star of electronic music… and yes; he’s the one in the dinosaur suit and the headdress.
From the early recognition for his debut releases on the Greco-Roman label (run by Joe Goddard), Orlando (aka TEED) has been on a one man mission to share his unique take on dance music – and it’s been going rather well of late. From joining forces with Friendly Fires on-stage at Bestival last summer to being invited out to the Congo by Damon Albarn to record an album for Warp, Orlando has been gradually ascending his way to the top, all the while following his own path.
Having found time to squeeze in a remix for Lady Gaga’s ‘Marry The Night’ single, re-release the irrepressible 'Garden' single (2.5million YouTube views and counting) and support Deadmau5 playing an exclusive set from the top of the Millbank Tower across the Thames, the majority of the past 6 months has actually been spent in the studio working on his much-anticipated debut LP.
And, we’re very pleased to announce that the album is now almost finished, with this single ‘Tapes & Money’ set to raise anticipation even further.
Orlando comments: "The track started life as an instrumental in my live sets, and with a little inspiration from the phone hacking saga, I've ended up recording a vocal. It feels good to get some new music out there."
Indeed it is, with the airwaves heating up since it’s first play last week and fans latching onto the chance of hearing new music online, it couldn’t be a better start to the year with Orlando currently in nearing the end of his first headline UK tour (every date sold out) and summer dates now starting to stack up. With highlights already including shows at Sonar Sao Paolo, a headline set at Camp Bestival, peak-time shows at Rockness and Bestival, a 6-stop tour of Germany and a headline show at London’s Koko on the 23rd May.
With the album now confirmed for release this June, welcome to 2000 and TEED – it’s going to be a great year.
