Tom Ellis, the king of bouncey bounce house music (released on labels like Floppy Funk, Minibar or Musique Risquee), with his first EP on Cologne’s Hartchef Discos imprint. From extra dry funk to Chicago house, from jazz samples to techno. Let us all take a short break now, just to let it come clear to us what a splendid fellow Tom Ellis is … Tom Ellis, based in Wales, has released records on labels like Floppy Funk, Minibar, Musique Risquee, Archipel, Logistic, Minordust, Trimsound and Mindtours (which he co-owns). Since we heard the first beats of this guy he had a place in our record bags. These beats are so bouncy bounce, you just can’t get enough. So we’re very ecstatic to present his first release on Hartchef. As usual we took all the time we needed to get the best result. So here you have it in your hands - just get into his groove. Starting with “Concentrate” we have an extra-dry funker, with a pumping and rolling bassline creeping up from the back. Followed by “Tried and Tested” an even dryer funker with a classic Chicago turn, reminding a bit of the stuff e.g. Brett Johnson or Lil Mark does. On the flip we have “Big TV” a track which bewitches with an gorgeous piano hook. Finishing with the absolutely maaddd jazz monster “Detach” with its ravishing breakdown.
