Yes, "Throw It To The Universe" will be the final proper release from THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES. The Swedish music collective with Ebbot Lundberg at its centre will disband definitively at the turn of the year 2012/2013.
Back in the 1980s, the musical world was in mortal danger of asphyxiation at the hands of the DX7 and material gods crossed the threshold of teenager dens with overflowing complacency. Meanwhile, the original gene of change rebelled in many of us. Union Carbide Production succeeded in articulating an energy which ploughed through castrated listening habits and reinvented them.
The mystery of youth is founded on the disproportional nature of energy and experience. On this album, the energy - experience relationship has metamorphosed, with shared experience often distilled into something of beauty. The wondrous transformation from excess to harmony does not fit the cliché of the happy ending, but deserves the candy proffered for constructive disobedience.
Every song enters the room as it opens and the instruments align like the expanses of the golden cut, without losing any of their impact. It remains their song, progressing ever onwards, decisively and unequivocally cutting a course through the terrain like a winding river. Ebbot and the master musicians are luminaries of citatory improvisation. Internal band sensibilities could never be concealed when making music of this kind. This transparency gave rise to altercations with everything that crossed their path, invariably including themselves.
"Throw It To The Universe" is a retrospective album for the Swedes and tells a story of constant change, of aspirations and reality, of friendship and trust. Not for a second premeditated and not in the slightest bit clever, but with a clearly autobiographical feel. Deep and complete - the European dream.
Only recently, Noel Gallagher revealed in an interview: "In a musical sense, the break-up of THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES would be pretty much the worst thing that could happen in 2012."
And although it will indeed come to pass, at least we can savour this final, captivating work, rich in grandeur, power, sugariness. The sun of life shines here, the energy of experience and opulent quotes drawn from a universe abundant in musical impressions.
This is not only a band, it is also a story. From punk to house music, a personal value creation and childish enthusiasm for playing instinctively with things.
It is their story, and theirs alone. All of their references come from the heart, openly declared and fondly committed to memory.
