In 1972, The Equatics were a group of local hopefuls from the Hampton, Virginia area who, in the wake of winning the Pepsi Award for "Best New Band", decided to cut Doin It!!!!, their one and only record. Under the leadership and direction of Frank H. Johnson, they created their own style by writing and arranging music with an “out of this world charge” while being inspired with a restless need to try further to express themselves artistically. This extremly rare record is one of the toughest pysedelic soul records to find that came out of the early seventies, as only 100 custom pressed records were ever made. The Equatics are especially proud of “What They Doin” which is all about them having a good time doing their own thing at a jam session: and “Where Is Love?” that tells it like it is in life and love. Equal parts, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown, The Equatics lay down over 30 minutes of music that moves from sweet soul, to hard funk, to pyschedelic rock, back to sweet soul. For fans of Bill Withers, Bar-Kays and East Of Underground.
