Run in association with London's Phonica Records comes a new label from the capital, Local Action. Its first release takes the form of the debut EP by T. Williams, one half of the immensely talented UK house duo Deep Teknologi.
A stable that works closely with Cooly G, MA1, Ben Westbeech and more, Deep Teknologi's sound is unique and modern, but steeped in house tradition.
The tracks that make up this EP fit as easily into deep house sessions as they do UK funky sets, and also have support from producers more readily associated with garage and dubstep – amongst them Kode9, Sinden, 2562 and Ikonika – on the basis of their sharp production quality, free-flowing sub-bass and indisputable groove.
‘Anthem’ is the hardest hitting of the three, stretching out a rattling, wood-tinted intro to levels of unbearable tension before dropping – and dropping hard. ‘Afric’ is weirder, but just as heavy: tribal keys bouncing off bulldozer bass hits, the track’s long echoed breakdowns punctuating its shoulder-rolling groove.
Finally, ‘Flooring‘ closes the EP, a gliding epic that recalls early Matthew Jonson in its subtle use of space and texture.
