Side A: Human Happiness (Superhuman Happiness)
Downtown NYC music scene's seasoned veterans like Oren Blowedow (bass) meet the Antibalas crew to deliver one of the funkiest tracks on wax of 2010. Human Happiness is a tasteful mix of electronic beats and blurps, layered horns, funky electric guitars, all pulsed along by a throbbing elastic bass line and live drums.
Superhuman Happiness was founded in 2008 to seek joy and love through shared rhythm and melody, composed and improvised. They have one CD, Stuart Bogie's Superhuman Happiness - Fall Down Seven Time Stand Up Eight, and one 7" entitled GMYL/Hounds. Members are known for their work with Antibalas and their work on the acclaimed hit Broadway musical Fela!, the Sway Machinery, TV on the Radio, Battle Apples, The Phenomonal Handclap Band, Caural, The Roots, James Hunter, King Expressors, Passion Pit, Celebration, Holly Miranda, Foals and the inimitable MC Chris. The band regularly rehearses, composes, and records together, engaging in various improvisatory musical games currently being compiled for implementation in widespread applications.
Side B: A Troll's Soiree (CSC Funk Band)
North Brooklyn’s CSC brings the horns, the rhythm and the swagger like it's 1972. A Troll's Soiree grooves with an easy gait as tight brass takes center stage. Clocking in at just a little over the 3-minute mark, this funky afrobeat-tinged instrumental is cop show funk at it's finest. CSC features many notables from the Brooklyn underground noise scene: Guitarist/producer Colin Langenus (USA Is A Monster, Alien Whale and keyboardist Matt Motel (Talibam!). Saxophonist and A Troll Soiree’s composer Wes Buckley (Dick Heaven) conducts Anthony Braxton disciple Dave Kadden (Invisible Circle) and his funky oboe down the backstreets of Bushwick past Ethiopian bodegas, psychic advisor storefronts, and under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway where a surreal slow motion car chase ensues to the banks of Newtown Creek. A Troll’s Soiree is a dazzling, gem of a telegram from the funky Nu-Brooklyn underground.
