When being into collecting records for more then 20-25 years there is not much left that can be considered the holy grail of house music… So we won’t call this a holy grail, therefore its probably to obscure anyway. However for us its a track which was impossible to find because it was simply not released! Only a hand full white labels on Dj International have been floating around, but it never got a proper release. Finally we managed to get the rights and more important a proper old recording of Sterling Voids instrumental version of Serve It Up. His first ever recording done in Chicago, 1987!! Alden Tyrell did a great job restoring the original recording and he prepared the track for its official release, almost 25 years after it was recorded by a young guy who was just enjoying himself in a Chicago recording studio for the first time, and not knowing that he was becoming part of house music history! Since the vocal version never was very appealing to us we asked Steve Summers for a new version for the b-side. He did a nice dusty low-fi re-edit-mix job for the b-side which add’s some flavor for the lovers of the obscure early Chicago house sound. We know this is a release thats not for everyone… but man… we did enjoy playing the first test pressings of this new Classic Cuts!!
