Savvy watchers of the Throne (of Blood) first got acquainted with Split Secs (the Los Angeles based duo of Alexandre Mouracade of SONNS fame and West Coast house and disco stalwart TK Disco) back in December of last year, when they brilliantly remixed Waze & Odyssey’s “Our World.” Or perhaps it was their incredible work for labels like Pacific Wizard Foundation, Jolly Jams, or their own Machine Limited. With The Joint EP, they officially join the TOB family, and what an entrance! The two originals “The Joint” and “Funkin Power” are raw in spirit and slick in form, channeling the old school West Coast vibe familiar to fans of Doc Martin without being stuck in the past. Classic Drum machines, cut up vocal samples, and tripped-out synths keep you on the edge, while deep, funky basslines ensure your feet will stay moving and your booty shaking.Theirs is the sound of the spirits of Future Sound of London, Coldcut and KLF are being summoned to the dancefloor at a Southern California full moon party. Two remixes perfectly complete the picture.Tel Aviv’s Red Axes (I’m A Cliche) take “The Joint” towards italo and disco without falling for the usual clichés, proving once again they are one of the most exciting acts in dance music at the moment, while Maxime (an alias of Populette’s Max Pask) injects “Funkin Power” with distorted drum machines and gritty analog bits, showcasing his love for the darker side of dance music.
