There's been much discussion about the identity of the producer (or producers) behind the S.O.N.S project, whose frustratingly limited and occasional 12" singles now exchange hands for large sums of money online. Seemingly South Korean or Japanese in origin, the project's previous releases have brilliantly joined the dots between Motor City futurism, early UK intelligent techno, hardcore, acid and deep house. They're at it again here, first on the rising brilliance of "A New Life (Planet Earth Mix)", where ambient house style samples, sweeping synthesized strings and intense acid lines wrap themselves around a cowbell-laden breakbeat groove. It's fantastic, but intergalactic techno flipside "Reversed Skies" - all tactile dream house pads, cowbell-driven drum machine percussion and darting electronics - is arguably even better.
