Receiving new, original music from Dave 'Switch' Taylor whipped the whole Your Army office into a frenzy... Under his Solid Groove moniker he has been responsible for some of the most exciting, raw, jackin house music to come out of the UK. 'Throwing Stones' continues that fine tradition. A deep outing with heavy drums, haunting string refrain and clever vocal cuts. It's great to have him back! New signing to the Dubsided camp is subskrpt who first caught our attention with his dubstep remix of Major Lazer 'Cashflow' and then a blinding remix of Rusko 'Woo Boost', he now releases his first original record custom made for the new Dubsided mix compilation titled 'Dubsided One'.
'We'll Be Fine' is a smooth outing which showcases the versatility of Subskrpt. It boasts an organic sounding groove with a smooth soulful vocal repeating the words, "we'll be fine"... taken from the song 'Fine' by the artist yU (which was included on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood comp last year) it is refreshing to hear an underground gem that grooves this effortlessly. Subskrpt is definitely someone to keep your eyes & ears on for 2010.
Dubsided is a label that is regarded as one of the most influential and pioneering in current dance music history. With Dave ‘Switch’ Taylor at the helm, the Dubsided ethos was always going to be forward-thinking, quality house music, it was clear from those early Solid Groove, Modeler and Induceve releases that something special was on the horizon. Quirky, glitchy, raw house yet always retaining funk and groove… they still sound as fresh today as they did back then. With 34 tracks (strung together seamlessly by new signing subskrpt) you can hear how far Dubsided has shaped and molded the current dance music landscape. The now classic ‘A Bit Patchy’ was an early Dubsided release before the label went on to nurture and develop such talent as Hervé, Jesse Rose, Duke Dumont and Trevor Loveys whose ‘Organ Grinder’ became a huge club anthem. Having been at the forefront of the bass-heavy scene for the last few years Dubsided now moves onto another chapter with a new double a-sided EP featuring a brand new Solid Groove track and the debut single from latest discovery subskrpt… both are included on the sublime, textured mix of ‘Dubsided One’ and once again proves why Dubsided is to be held in such high-regard, the label that produces sounds and artists like no other has delivered again. The motto of “One piece of vinyl, dubs on both sides. Dubsided.” still stands true but a key factor around the release of ‘Dubsided One’ is that the complete back catalogue of Dubsided is to be made available digitally for the very first time. With so many gems only available as vinyl up until now this is a hugely exciting prospect that will open up the sound of the label to a whole new audience...
